I want to start featuring local spots for kids and families, so here is the first one. The Carolina Children’s Garden.
I have lived in Columbia, SC for almost 3 years and am always discovering something new. I know when you have kids it makes you get out and find all of those kid and family friendly places. I wish when I moved here I knew or had a resource to find all of these wonderful places. There are some great resources out there, but finding out from other moms is always the best way for me. I hope this might help some newcomers, vistors, or people who have not tried a local spot yet.
We ventured to the Carolina Children’s Garden, thanks to a suggestion of a mom in our play group. It is a wondeful place for a toddler or young kid. A beautiful place to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy. There are so many neat things to discover like: little houses, tunnels made from sticks and wood, a big sandbox with toys, a little slide, a dinosaur to ride, chimes in the trees, a stage, big and little picnic tables, a huge hill to run and play on, trails, and a beautiful pond. Go to the website at Carolina Children’s Garden. Oh, and did I mention that it is FREE!
Here are some pics from our trip.
It is located across from the Village at Sandhills at the Clemson Sandhill Research and Education Center in northeast Columbia, SC. We turned in like we were going to the Farmer’s Market and you have to take some dirt roads pretty fair back to find it, but there are signs to follow. You might think you have missed it, but keep going. It is worth it!
Eli loved everything about this place. He was so excited he did not know what to do first. I think the Old McDonald House was his favorite. We cannot wait to go back!
Do you have a favorite family and kid friendly place you like to go to in or around Columbia? Let me know, and I will try and feature it next time.
