The first day was all about NIGHT. We read some great books and looked at the moon and stars outside. He fell in love with the book, How To Make A Night by: Linda Ashman. He wanted to read it every day and night.
NEST and NOAH’S ARK were day two. He colored a print out of the letter N and big bird in a NEST.
We walked around the neighborhood and looked for NESTS. He spotted a bunch and found one that was just the right height for him to see. He loved finding them, and it has quickly has become one of his favorite things to do on walks.
We have a great book called Noah’s Ark by: Peter Spier and it has become one of Eli’s favorite books. It is filled with beautiful illustrations of the ark and the animals.
We were going to make some edible nests, but Eli got sick again, so we did not get around to that fun activity. I know there is a great step by step guide on how to make them at http://www.instructables.com/id/Edible-Easter-Nests/. I like to make them with butterscotch chips too!
NOSE and NECK were next, and we went to Lowe’s Garden Center and smelled all the spring flowers, herbs, and some vegetable plants. We also walked around the yard smelling the few spring flowers in bloom.
NOISE, NEWSPAPER, and NUMBERS ended the week.
We made a newspaper hat and some noise newspaper shakers.
The hats and the noise shakers are easy to make. Click here for the instructions for the hat.
The shakers, I remembered making in school or somewhere and will have a post on how to make them soon. If you want them to look really good, you can paint them before you make them for some color and pizzazz! I probably could have cut up lots of small strips of newspaper and made a really cool nest with Eli too.
The last day was filled with counting and numbers. We worked on his Melissa and Doug NUMBER puzzle.
He loves putting money and his piggy bank, so we counted some NICKELS and put them in his piggy.
We found a great song and finger play from http://www.preschoolrainbow.org/preschool-rhymes.htm
Three Little Nickels
A Finger play
Three little nickels in a pocketbook new,
hold up three fingers
One bought a peppermint, and then there were two,
bend down one finger
Two Little nickels before the day was done,
One bought an ice cream come, and then there was one
bend down another finger
One little nickel I heard it plainly say,
“I’m going into the piggy bank for a rainy day!”
Letter O is coming at ya next!
